Long Beach - Oceana - Paradise

We only had a couple of days each at long Beach and Oceana, mainly due to just getting our Thousand Trails membership finalized and most campsites are booked up on the week-ends. Now that we are members and can book out several months in advance we have been able to get camp sites several weeks ahead of the crowds, arriving on Sunday or Monday as everyone else is leaving and hopefully we will start getting our pick of the sites and staying for a couple of weeks at a time so we have time to explore the areas a little more.

Still loving the RV lifestyle and enjoying every minute. I really like the fact it doesn't cost anything to stay at any of the campsites and (so far) I can see our budget really holding up just fine. It helps to not have a mortgage and those extremely high summer electric and water bills. That allows for much more entertainment and dining out adventures, and we both like that. It feels like we are in the Sweet Spot of life and although it may only last a short time, it sure feels good.

As you will see in the Video, both Long Beach and Oceana were about the same type of campground with Oceana having much smaller campsites. Both are an easy 10 minute walk to the beach and we enjoyed out stays at each location. We are currently at Paradise RV park and it is much bigger (and full) but it is in a forest and not on the Ocean. We aren't too far from the swimming pool and we can hear kids playing all day long but there are lots of walking trails around as well as canoes to take out on the little lake if we so choose. I plan to do some studying up and get ready to drive up about 60 miles to a FAA office to take my test drone test on Wednesday. It will be nice to get that behind me and be able to fly in a lot more places without having to call the different airports to let them know I am flying in their area.

Diane sent an email saying she and Steve might check in occasionally and we hope they do. They once mentioned they might be interested in getting back into owning a 5th wheel RV. If that does work its way up to the top of their list of things to do, maybe we can have another family reunion at some central location somewhere, sometime, somehow. It's easy for us to vote for it as we don't have much else to do, and we plan to come drifting by each of your homes over the next year, so either way we will be seeing you soon. Count On It.

I was just watching the video prior to posting it and admiring Pearl's hair. She was getting tired of it being so long while we were in Vegas in 100 plus temperatures so she asked Melissa if she would cut and style it while we were at their home in Spring Creek.  I didn't expect to really like it short but I think Melissa really did a great job and I like it a lot. Makes me pretty proud to be escorting such a lovely lady as we walk around the campground. I sometimes even put on a clean shirt and comb my hair (might even have to shave soon) so people won't think i'm a knucklehead harassing her instead of her husband (harassing her). Thanks Melissa!

Enjoy the Video, I sure enjoyed making it.

  1. You and Mom are both welcome for her haircut. Is SHE liking it? Less time definitely cooler. :D

  2. Yes she likes it a lot, but it has been in the 60's most of the time so a little hair hanging around her neck and shoulders would have probably felt good, as I hear her comment more "It's kind of cool" now. I am guessing she will keep it short from now on. :-)

  3. Another great video :) I am glad to see that Pearl is keeping you busy with your chores. Every time I read Oceana all I could think about was Oceania from the George Orwell book 1984.

Love you both lots and good luck on your test tomorrow. You will be entering drone races soon and taking home ribbons.

    1. I saw a video on drone races a couple of days ago, it was in a big indoor stadium with obstacles to fly around and through. Now that is absolutely crazy, I dont 'think anyone over 40 could even think about doing something like that competitively. I might try to slowly make my way through it with someone else drone but going fast like they do is totally crazy in my opinion. Maybe Aidan, Jared or Alex could do it but not with my drone.

  5. I noticed Pearl new "do" on the 1st video but I forgot to mention it! She looks beautiful (but she always does!)Great cut Melissa!

I really enjoy seeing all the campsites. I enjoy larger sites in National Forests (and more privacy) but Cody explained I probably won't find many of those in commercial campgrounds b/c they are in it as a business and making a profit. Even though I love the larger sites, they often don't have electricity or sometimes not water. I have thought about what it would be like to live in a RV for a year or longer. Seeing some of the clips of you dand your RV is cool. I can't imagine making a packing list for a year of camping. What would you say is the hardest thing to do without? (or maybe miss the most because there isn't room for it) What is the best? Maybe thoughts for future videos. Best of luck on your test tomorrow!

  6. We haven't missed much of anything yet, we actually have too much stuff (cloths, cooking utensil, tools, etc) but the one thing I am having to adjust for is mail. Melissa is taking care of all our actual mail and letting us use her address. She scans important things to us and trashes the rest. The problem is Amazon orders which I used to get every week. I need a pressure switch for one of the air tanks so I ordered it General Delivery to the post office in the town close to where we will be at next. Most post offices will accept General Delivery mail and hold it for 30 days but not all so I have to call to make sure. Melissa received a check from our mortgage company and she will mail that to the general delivery address also. It is our first time so hopefully it all works out good, but not proven as yet.

Some of the campsites are too close even for us, but for the most part, we don't mind the crowding as we generally feel pretty comfortable in our campsite area as most folks are very respectful of each others space. We may get tired of it eventually, but so far so good.

My test got postponed a day due to the holiday, I rescheduled for Thursday, so an extra day of study. I try to take a practice test every day and I have got over 80% each time, so I feel fairly confident so far.

  7. We have friends who have a motor home similar to yours and they would go camping several months at a time. Your way is probably better but they would have the Snyder Post Office hold their mail and about once a month I would go and pick it up and do similar to what Melissa is doing as far as separating out the good/important from the ads/junk mail. They would send me the address of the RV park they were staying in and I would send a package to them with their "important looking" mail. They of course let the manager of the park know it was coming and got permission from him to do that. I don't know how many are willing to do that for their guests but they did it at several different ones.

  8. Wow! That video was awesome. You are getting so great with the drone and your editing skills are fantastic too! Love the music as well. It was really fun to watch!

Those campsites are beautiful and it looks like such a fun time!

I love Pearl's hair too. Very cute!

Keep the great posts coming and good luck on your test too!
